Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday is a cosy little neighbourhood cafe that also happens to be one of my favourite places to get my waffle fix at. Tucked under a HDB block about a 10-minute walk from Toa Payoh Central, it’s not the most conveniently located cafe unless you’re driving or live in the area, but the waffles (and ice cream) are worth the walk for me.

Waffle with Vanilla and Mao Shan Wang Ice Cream ($11.50)

Made from a special yeasted batter, the waffles here have a perfectly light, airy and crispy texture that enable them to be quickly devoured on their own. But Shrove Tuesday happens to have some pretty awesome homemade ice cream as well, with a modest variety of flavors. Rich and creamy, with a bit of a gelato-like texture, the Mao Shan Wang and Madagascar Vanilla are my go-to flavours.

Waffle with Baileys Ice Cream ($8.50), Long Black ($4)

Shrove Tuesday also serves a good cup of coffee. The Long Black was strong without being too bitter or acidic and went very well with the Baileys ice cream I also got on my last trip there.

Needless to say, I’ll definitely be back.
