One of several hipster cafes that have sprung up around Novena in recent years, The Clueless Goat has garnered a reputation for their good coffee and affordable brunch fare, especially their hearty sourdough sandwiches that are pretty reasonably priced.
Salami Sandwich with Side Salad ($9.50)On my first visit here, I tried their Salami Sandwich, which was made with a generous portion of salami slathered with an equally generous portion of sweet onion jam, a slice of Swiss cheese, crisp sourdough bread, and served with a dainty-looking mini salad. All in all, a great sandwich that was chock full of flavor.
Sweet Waffle with Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream ($9.50)Unfortunately, the Sweet Waffle with Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream didn’t fare quite as well. The waffle was thin and light but pretty dry and not as crispy as I was expecting. Overall, it had a sort of savory biscuit texture to it, with the fresh berries and caramel sauce lending a nice sweet-and-sour punch. Really didn’t like the ice cream, though – it was supposed to be toasted marshmallow, but like most toasted marshmallow flavors this one was just bland and generically sweet. Probably should’ve stuck with vanilla, which was the only alternative.
I’ll definitely be back here… for the sandwiches, that is.
