Buck Tile St. Cafe

I’ve always wanted to check out this cafe since I hear about it, but the location isn’t very accessible by public transport. After catching word that it might be winding down, though, I decided to suck it up and walk there from Clementi Fire Station so I could sample the waffles while they were still available.

The Waffle: This was, to borrow an age-old turn of phrase, not my friggin’ cup of tea. Thick, soft and chewy, it was exactly the opposite of how I like my waffles. The blue-hued chocolate sauce served with it was alright, though I could’ve done without the artificial coloring. 2.5/5

The Ice Cream: I enjoyed the Earl Grey ice cream a lot more. It was basically the equivalent of drinking Earl Grey tea in ice cream form, though the bergamot flavor got more pronounced the more I ate and became a little too strong toward the end. 3.5/5

Blue seems to be a culinary theme in Buck Tile St., as there was blue velvet cake and a blue cheese burger of some sort on the menu as well (the smell of the latter being so overpowering that I couldn’t wait to get the hell out when someone at the table across mine ordered it).

I do like blue cheese, but in small quantities. Anyways, it’s a pity that this place is winding down, as the lattes are quite good and the ambiance is nice enough for you to spend a lazy afternoon chilling in. If I lived in Faber Drive, I’d probably be sad to see it go.
