Beans & Cream

The phrase ‘best kept secret’ gets a little overused, but it’s an apt way to describe Beans & Cream. Unassumingly nestled between a hair salon and a TCM clinic under an old Bukit Batok flat block, this tiny cafe is sometimes compared to the more famous Creamier because of how similar their waffles are.

Waffles with Dark Chocolate and Mao Shen Wang Ice Cream ($9.80)

Personally, I’m not a fan of light, fluffy waffles like this—especially the ones here, which are always too light and fluffy for my tastes, and never quite crispy enough. I also like my waffles to have some flavour to them, and Beans & Cream’s are rather bland on their own.

am a big fan of the fantastic ice cream, which—at $5 for a double scoop (add $0.80 for the premium range)—is made fresh in-house and surprisingly cheap for handcrafted ice cream. There are over a dozen flavours to choose from, with the fabulous Mao Shen Wang being the top seller and the rich Dark Chocolate coming in a close second.

Cappuccino ($4)

Coffee is your standard-fare Illy espresso which, while not being anything to write home about, is always a safe bet for a nice, smooth caffeine fix. (The whole exploding lid fiasco aside.)
