The Dream Cafe

Even though The Dream Cafe has been around for few years, I only learned of its existence a month ago when I chanced upon a Facebook post that there was a TV drama being filmed there. Given that I don’t really watch TV nowadays, I was more interested in checking out their waffles.

Were they as tasty as they looked?

Belgian Waffle with Chocolate Ice Cream ($8.50)

Alas there’s not much in the way of praise I can give this waffle, as it turned out to be the kind I’m not crazy about – crisp on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. The last time I checked, the website boasted that this was so good you can even eat it plain, which I definitely didn’t find to be the case.

The ice cream didn’t fare much better – not horrible but not anything to write home about either. It was supposed to be gelato but tasted more like regular ice cream that had been left in the freezer a little too long. Thick and chunky, there was nothing gelato-like about it and it didn’t complement the waffle’s firm exterior too well.

All in all, considering the distance I had to travel as a west-sider, a wasted trip for me that was slightly alleviated by the place’s chill interior and decent coffee.
