Tucked in a corner of its Star Vista store, local music retailer Swee Lee’s ‘Social Club’ is a rustic-looking little cafe that serves gourmet coffee, toast, pastries, and a few desserts that include—you guessed it—waffles with ice cream.
Eager to sample the wares, this was the first time in years I willingly entered a music shop (being forced to play the piano as a kid may have left me with a teensy bit of trauma).
The Social Club’s buttermilk waffles are a simple affair, baked till a golden shade of brown and topped with icing sugar, berries and cinnamon.
Light and crispy seems to be the waffle philosophy here, which always does the trick for me. The vanilla ice cream was as vanilla as vanilla gets, but was soft and creamy enough for me to have no serious gripes (though they really could’ve been less stingy with the portion).
