Smoocht

There aren’t a whole lot of establishments in Singapore that serve vegan waffles and ice cream. Smoocht is one such cafe that has you covered if you’re a vegan or want to embark on a plant-based diet.

Nestled under a HDB block near Jurong East Swimming Complex, it’s a pity this cafe isn’t in a more popular or accessible location, because the ice cream rocks and the waffles are pretty darn good too.

The Waffles: If you like your waffles crunchy, Smoocht’s ought to bring a smile to your face.  Yeah, they look ugly as hell in these photos, but you can chalk that up dreadful photography skills that will hopefully improve with time. As other reviewers have shown, these waffles are actually very photogenic in spite of their simple plating. (I would save the extra dollar infusing your waffle with matcha powder will cost you, though, as too little powder is used for there to be any detectable matcha flavour). 4/5

The Ice Cream: Smoocht’s ice cream is made from organic brown rice milk without any artificial additives or preservatives, and is touted as being the healthier choice (it’s supposed gluten-free as well). You can certainly taste the difference from other ice creams with its slightly grainy texture, which actually enhances the mouthfeel in my opinion. Selection-wise, there are plenty of flavours to choose from, with my personal favourite being the Strawberry Fields for an extremely fresh and fruity pick-me-up. 4.5/5
