Reeling from a shockingly bad meal at Al Forno (watery lobster bisque and near-tasteless seafood tomato pasta do not a good dinner make), I came into this cafe in serious need of some decent dessert to cleanse my palate.
Fortunately, Simplicité more than delivered in that regard.
The Waffle: This is a great place to grab a waffle if you like yours light and crispy like I do. It was made from a batter that was slightly buttery and flavourful enough that you could enjoy it on its own without any sauce or toppings. (Perhaps they knew this, which was why they only bothered to drizzle a paltry amount of chocolate sauce on top). 4/5

The Ice Cream: The cookies ‘n cream gelato had a stronger cookie taste than I expected. It complemented the waffle well and wasn’t as cloyingly sweet as some cookies ‘n cream flavours can be. It was also quite thick, which kept it from melting too quickly, yet had a smooth and velvety texture. 4/5
I found out after the fact that Simplicité is known for its unique Blossom Waffle, which I plan to try if I’m ever back here. It’s too bad East Side cafes are so far out for me, because this is one place I wouldn’t mind returning to regularly.
