Gecory—a portmanteau of gelato, coffee, and pastry—is a cosy HDB neighbourhood cafe that serves just that, in addition to waffles, cakes, loose leaf teas, and even bingsu.

While the bingsu is absurdly priced (like most bingsu in Singapore tends to be) at nearly $15 for what essentially amounts to a regular-sized bowl of Korean shaved ice, the damage for a piping-hot waffle with two scoops of ice cream is a lot more reasonable at $12, which is what I find myself consistently coming back for.

These aren’t the best waffles or ice cream, but the ambiance is nice, the location is very accessible if you live in central Clementi, and the prices will set you back a little less than what most similar outfits are charging. Plus, the gelato selection will leave you spoiled for choice (there are about a dozen flavours to choose from), and this is the only place I know of in the area that’s serving charcoal waffles (they don’t really taste any different from regular waffles, as far as I can tell, but are supposedly healthier).

All in all, Gecory is a decent substitute for The Daily Scoop if you live closer to Clementi Mall and don’t want to travel to Sunset Way to get your ice-cream-&-waffle fix.
