I seldom eat steak when I go out nowadays, preferring instead to pick out my own cuts at the supermarket and cook them at home. So, despite being something of a regular at Stirling Bar & Grill, I’ve never actually tried any of their signature charcoal-grilled steaks.

When I’m here, I usually rotate between having their Fish & Chips, Grilled Chicken, or Halloumi Salad, all of which are quite good. They’ve got a decent selection of beers and cocktails, too.

Then there are the waffles, of course. Served up in collaboration with Micreme Lab (a popup cafe that rents space inside the restaurant), these bad boys are the main reason I’ve been coming to Stirling so often.

Micreme serves a delicious Belgian Chocolate Waffle infused with choc chips. It’s freshly baked to an optimal level of crispness, packs a wonderfully crunchy shell, and is extremely rich in chocolate flavour (melted chocolate practically oozes out when you bite into it). As a friend put it, it’s like eating a hybrid of a brownie and a waffle.

While they do sometimes get lazy with the plating (which is one explanation why some of the snapshots taken by Burpplers look so much better than mine—my mediocre photography skills being the other), I can always count on the waffles here tasting fabulous, which is ultimately all that matters.

The ice cream is great, too. Especially the Lemon Meringue flavour, with its fantastically sour punch (further enhanced by dollops of fresh lemon curd) working well to balance out the lavishness of the Belgian chocolate waffle, which may be too rich and sweet for some. You can’t go wrong with flavours like Banana Nutella or Honey Lavender either—though unless you really have a sweet tooth, you’re better off pairing those with the regular waffle.

I have to give it up for the tiramisu as well. I’m not sure if Micreme or Stirling’s own kitchen is behind it, but I’m easy to please when it comes to tiramisu: make me one that’s rich and creamy but not too heavy, and strong on the Baileys and coffee, and you’ve got my thumbs-up.
