Feeling drained and lethargic on an especially hot and humid Saturday, I perked up when I chanced upon Overscoop, a new ice cream parlour in the West Coast neighbourhood.
Established just a couple of years ago (during the middle of the pandemic, no less), Overscoop has already managed to expand rapidly, with two other outlets in Orchard and Hougang. Their success is easily understandable once you sample their offerings and realise the high standards they maintain.
The highlight of Overscoop’s menu is undoubtedly their waffles. Exceptionally light, airy, and boasting a satisfying crunch on the outside, these bad boys are baked to literal perfection.
The Dark Cocoa Waffle, in particular, left a lasting impression on me. It stands out as one of the tastiest chocolate waffles I’ve had, with a prominent cocoa flavour that lingers on the palate.
According to Overscoop’s about page, their waffles are the result of a months-long effort to create the perfect recipe. While perfection is subjective, I really would confidently rank the waffles here alongside my other top picks like Burnt Cones’ and Shrove Tuesday’s.
Beyond waffles, Overscoop’s name derives from its clever gimmick of offering a complimentary mini-scoop of ice cream on top of any flavour you choose.
For my main flavour, I opted for the Cinnamon Chocolate gelato, which was a delightful blend of woodsy spice and rich chocolate.
The overscoop of their Black Forest gelato provided an extra layer of indulgence, which was a heavenly combination of luscious chocolate and tart cherry jam, reminiscent of the classic cake.
Ambience-wise, it’s immediately obvious Overscoop offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with an interior aesthetic that manages to be tasteful and playful at the same time.
Both the indoor and alfresco seating arrangements are comfortable, with ample leg room for customers to enjoy their dessert while engaging in conversation or simply savouring the moment.
