Hole-in-the-wall ice cream cafes are becoming quite ubiquitous in Singapore neighbourhoods nowadays, and Picolo Gelato is the latest one to open in Marine Parade.
The place is relatively small, with only three inside tables, but it’s decked out with simple, clean furnishings that create a modern and comfortable atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the waffles didn’t quite live up to my usual standards. While pretty crispy, they were too salty for my palate and tasted too strongly of baking soda. The Flowery Oolong Gelato did have strong floral notes, but was rather light in the oolong department. The Matcha Gelato was also much too sweet, and didn’t have a strong enough of a matcha kick. The salted caramel drizzle around the waffle was a nice touch, but it didn’t quite save the disappointment of the gelato itself.
The cafe does boast some other unique flavours, including Hokkaido Banana Milk and Lavender, which could be more promising than the ones I tried.
