Meaning ‘happy’ in Tok Pisin, Hamamas is a coffee bar and dessert cafe that sources their beans straight from Papua New Guinea.
I sampled two different types of waffles here: the Churros Waffle and the Sourdough Waffle.

Both waffles were better than I had been expecting, being pleasantly soft in the middle and crispy around the edges.
The Churros Waffle came with chocolate dipping sauce that was rich and sweet (heck, the waffle itself remained crispy even after my friend took some of it home), while I chose to have a scoop of Papaya Ice Cream served with the Sourdough Waffle.

The ice cream is sourced straight from local artisanal creamery, Hay Gelato, and while the taste of papaya was a little lighter than I would have liked, the texture was delightful and the level of sweetness was perfectly balanced.
The Coffee here is excellent too. Strong but not acidic, with light chocolate undertones that were very pleasing to the palate.

The café has a pretty unique sense of décor compared to other restaurants and dessert bars in the area. Drawing from the owner’s own culture, there’s a lot of tribal pieces and artwork on display from around Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.

With a friendly and unique atmosphere, it’s definitely one to visit if you’re in the mood for good waffles and great coffee.
