I recently visited the newly opened Café Usagi in the newly renovated ‘café row’ in Suntec City’s Tower 3.
The word ‘usagi’ means rabbit in Japanese, and this café certainly lives up to the cute and dainty nature of its namesake.
The design of the place greets you with a marriage of traditional Japanese teahouse aesthetic and sleek, modern elements. The ambiance was both serene and stylish, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a matcha or dessert.
The Waffles here hit all the right notes for me on what makes a good waffle: crisp on the outside, moist and fluffy on the inside, and lightly flavourful (like Chirashi-Ai‘s waffle, they probably used vanilla essence in the batter).
I picked the rather unique Lavender Hojicha for my ice cream (not a flavour you see every day), which was a harmonious blend of earthy hojicha and delicate lavender notes. This ice cream is creamy, velvety, and just the right amount of sweet, making it an ideal pairing for the waffles.
Like Vanda Botanical Desserts, Café Usagi lets you ‘upgrade’ your ice cream by adding a dollar for a mochi skin wrap. It’s worth every penny. The mochi skin adds a delightful chewiness to the ice cream, enhancing the overall texture and elevating the dessert to new heights.
Between the stylish interior, delicious waffles and unique flavours, I would definitely recommend paying Café Usagi a visit if you’re at Suntec.
