Little Rogue Coffee

Little Rogue Coffee has a bright, woodsy, and inviting ambiance that I appreciated from the minute I stepped in. With the high ceiling and plenty of space between tables, the cafe feels cozy and roomy at the same time.

The Brown-Butter Waffle with Smoked Hay Ice Cream was the first thing I ordered, and it turned out to be very much worth the twenty-minute wait.

The waffle was appropriately brown and buttery, and perfectly crisp, well exceeding my expectations. It’s a shame savory options aren’t offered for it, because this bad boy would pair well with some smoked salmon or fried chicken. But hell, it’s good enough to eat on its own  As for the ice cream, if smoked hay sounds like a gimmick to you, then you might find it a damned tasty gimmick, with its combination of sweet, smoky, and herbaceous flavours, further enhanced by a generous drizzle of salted caramel sauce.  4.5/5 (Waffle), 4/5 (Ice Cream)

The Breakfast Spamwich (a special item that isn’t normally on the menu) was the second thing I tried. It was composed of a hashbrown atop a thick cut of spam and cheddar cheese, all clamped between two slices of sourdough toast. The plating could’ve used more work, though my photography could be to blame as well (and I probably should’ve unwrapped the whole thing before photographing it), but this calorie-heavy, sinfully greasy sandwich definitely tasted better than it looks.  3.5/5

The Classic Espresso Tonic was a light, refreshing drink that was just what I needed to wash down the heavy meal. It gets a default 4 stars out of 5 from me because I’m a big fan of espresso tonic and this is one drink that’s virtually impossible to mess up.  4/5

The one downside to my dining experience turned out to be the last thing I had.

The Criss Cross (another special item that’s not available on the regular menu). Mixing black cold brew coffee, black tea and condensed milk, I guess they were going for a yuan yang sort of concoction, but it didn’t work for me, and I felt that the drink ended up being too weak and sugary, possibly because neither the coffee nor the tea were gao enough.  2.5/5
