Dawn’s Gelateria

The newest addition to Sunset Way’s ice cream scene, Dawn’s Gelateria also doubles as a casual restaurant, serving mains such as steak, pasta dishes and fish & chips. As usual, I went for the waffle and ice cream duo, choosing coffee to go with it.

The Waffle: On its own this waffle was dense and buttery, but still crispy and quite fragrant (I requested they bake it an extra few minutes). It was served without any sauce, though, so it would be rather bland if you ordered it just by itself.  3.5/5

The Ice Cream: Dawn’s selection was decent, ranging from run-of-the-mill flavours like Cookies & Cream, Dark Chocolate and Strawberry Sorbet, to more unique and interesting flavours such as Spicy Apple Rosemary and Cranberry Port Wine (which were my choices this time).

The Spicy Apple Rosemary gelato is definitely an acquired taste, and won’t be for everyone. It’s a tart and legitimately spicy flavour – perhaps a little too much so, to the point where I could barely taste the apple or the rosemary over the spice.  3/5

The Cranberry Port Wine gelato fared a lot better; it was refreshingly smooth and sweet, and went easy on the palate.  4/5

The Coffee: The Cappuccino I ordered alongside my meal was on the weak and diluted side, alas. Your best bet would be to head to Olla or Hundred Acre Creamery, just around the corner, if you’re craving a caffeine fix.  2/5
