SweeT.Rex

Taking over the space previously occupied by The New & Old Cafe, SweeT.Rex is a dessert café known for its reasonably priced soufflé pancakes.

I was more interested in the waffles, of course – particularly the wazza, a clever amalgamation of waffles and pizza.

Priced at $10.90, the Pepperoni Wazaa proved to be an affordable and satisfying treat. It features beef and chicken pepperoni on a tomato base, generously topped with mozzarella cheese. While not exactly gourmet cuisine, this unconventional take on waffles intrigued me, despite my personal preference leaning more towards sweet waffles. The waffle itself spent a good amount of time in the iron, boasting a crispy texture throughout, although it does lose points for being a mite too dry. The pepperoni was also too salty for my liking, and it became hard to finish the whole thing towards the end. 3/5

What really impressed me here was the Dalgona Yuan Yang, which blends iced espresso and Hong Kong milk tea with dalgona-flavoured syrup. Unlike other dalgona-inspired beverages I’ve sampled, this one omitted the actual dalgona component, relying solely on the syrup. Nevertheless, the combination was executed exceptionally well, resulting in a rich, thick, creamy and pleasantly bittersweet concoction with a distinctive dalgona kick. I liked this drink so much, in fact, that I regretted not opting for the larger size. 4.5/5

Ambience-wise, don’t expect too much out of the place due to the small space. There were no other customers around, though, when I was there late in the afternoon, so it is certainly a good spot to chill during off-peak hours.
