Located in Marina Square, Oh My Cow is another hole-in-the-wall ice cream shop reminiscent of Betsubara, offering a limited seating space and delicious ice cream. The cosy atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to enjoy a sweet treat, but the seating limitations mean it’s best suited for smaller groups or solo visitors.
I decided to try their Love Letter Ice Cream Waffle, which comes with two scoops of ice cream by default. While the ice cream itself was good, I found it odd that there was no option for a single scoop or to enjoy the waffle on its own. The portion size might be overwhelming for the average person to finish alone, which may deter solo visitors from ordering the waffle at all.
For my ice cream selections, I chose some local flavours – Honey Chrysanthemum and Soya Bean with Dough Fritters. The Honey Chrysanthemum was like indulging in a cup of sweetened herbal tea from your neighbourhood medical hall in ice cream form, while the Soya Bean with Dough Fritters was a wonderful frozen take on tau huay zui with bits of yu char kway mixed in.
Alas, the Love Letter Waffle itself was a big disappointment. Contrary to the promotional picture on the menu, the waffle doesn’t actually come with love letters. Instead, it’s made from a batter that’s intended to taste like love letters. While the flavour was spot-on, the dense and somewhat chewy texture of the waffle didn’t sit well with me. I expect something billged as a love letter waffle to be light, airy and crunchy, but this was the exact opposite.
All in all, while I’d certainly recommend Oh My Cow for the ice cream, I’d advise a hard pass on the waffle.
