This wasn’t a cafe with a particularly attractive exterior, but since they were serving up waffles on their menu, I felt obliged to check it out.

Fortunately, the interior was much more inviting, with social distancing measures actually resulting in the place feeling rather spacious because the tables were spread so far apart. There wasn’t much of a crowd to begin with, however. In fact, my dining companion and I were the only two people there when we walked in.
The Waffle: Now, the bad news again. The waffle was very mediocre, I felt—though you might like it if you’re into thicker waffles that are crispy on the outside and dense on the inside. 2.5/5

The Ice Cream: The so-called premium ice cream was where the real letdown came. MSW purportedly stands for Mao Shan Wang, but the flavour was distinctly artificial and I had my doubts about whether there was even any real durian in it. There was something sticky and gummy mixed in, which I guess was supposed to simulate… pulp? It didn’t work, at any rate, and had more of a sap-like quality that reminded me of syrup or condensed milk that had been left in the fridge too long. 1.5/5
All in all, with other casual dining cafes like Up In Smoke and Big Big Fries in the area (both also serving waffles and ice cream), Moonrise looks to be up against stiff competition.
