Meat n’ Chill

I’ve been wanting to check out Meat n’ Chill for a while now and finally did last week. Deciding that it would be remiss of me to dine alone at a place with a name like this, I invited a friend along who also happens to be a fellow waffle enthusiast. This restaurant is pretty famous for its ribs, and we were excited to try them—and even more stoked to discover that they had waffles on the menu.

It was lunchtime on a weekday and the place was pretty dead, with only two other people dining with us at an adjacent table. Though we were surprised by the lack of customers (pandemic restrictions probably played a part), we did like the vibe of the place. It was an American-style diner with a modern rustic feel. The service was good, too. The waitstaff were fast to respond and polite.

Unfortunately, this was the end of the high point of our dining experience.

The Signature Original BBQ Ribs, which have been the subject of many a rave review, were a letdown for us. Tender? Not really. Falling off the bone? Nope. The BBQ sauce was also rather basic, and we regretted not going with something with more kick like hickory or bourbon.  2.5/5

Still, not all hope was lost because the Three Little Pigs Burger fared better. It was comprised of a tasty brioche bun, filled with three kinds of pork—bacon, pulled pork, and a fairly thick slice of spam—layered with cheese and gherkins. It was a hearty, artery-clogging indulgence, though ultimately nothing to write home about. The bun also got soggy a little too quickly and could’ve been toastier.  3.5/5

For dessert, we split a Belgian Waffle with Ice Cream between us. It turned out to be another big letdown, despite us loving the way it was plated. The chocolate ice cream was ‘chocolate’ only in name; it was bland and we barely tasted any chocolate at all, and texture-wise this seemed to be a cheap factory-made brand like Wall’s or King’s that had been left in the freezer too long. This almost ruined the entire dessert, which was a shame because the waffle, while not being anything special, was crisp and quite decently done.
3/5 (Waffle), 1.5/5 (Ice Cream)

All in all, for a restaurant that’s received such buzz, we were disappointed by our meal and doubt we’d return.
