Chocoelf, a diabetic-friendly chocolatier in Chinatown, is known for its sugar-free chocolates made with sugar alternatives. This unique café offers not only a delectable assortment of chocolates, but also serves sugar-free waffles and ice cream, making it an ideal spot for those seeking healthier dessert options.
Upon my visit, I decided to try their Darkest Secret gelato, which was touted as one of Chocoelf’s signature flavours. Unfortunately, I found it rather disappointing as it lacked both sweetness and bitterness, leaving it somewhat bland on the palate. 3/5
The waffle itself looked a bit lonely with just a single scoop of ice cream, so I decided to spice it up with a Yogurt Beetroot bar for an additional $5.50. The yogurt in this chocolate was quite tart, overwhelming the cocoa and providing a sour, not-so-sweet taste. While the pinkish hue from the beetroot was visually appealing, I couldn’t detect any distinct beetroot flavour—possibly because the yogurt was so tart it drowned out the rest of the flavour. 3.5/5
Texture-wise, the Waffle was adequately crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. However, it wasn’t particularly flavourful, and I couldn’t imagine eating it without any sauce or ice cream. While it wasn’t the worst waffle I’ve had, it certainly wasn’t the best either. 3.5/5
The Ginger Craft Chocolate Drink, which is basically hot cocoa infused with ginger, was something I really liked. Despite the $7.50 price tag being rather steep, this warm and comforting concoction is the perfect beverage for a rainy day (it was starting to get rather drizzly when I was there), and an ideal accompaniment to a cold dessert like ice cream. 4/5
Ambience-wise, the café’s decor was quite delightful. Bright and cheery with a festive-like theme, it evoked the feeling of Christmas cheer, making me want to break out into a Jingle Bells tune despite the season being long past.
