Salted Caramel Artisan Ice Cream

Fairly new and situated next to Udders in Lorong Kilat, Salted Caramel Artisan Ice Cream is a great place to go if you want to treat yourself to a relaxing atmosphere and good waffles.

Interestingly, there’s also an Udders right next to the Salted Caramel outlet in Upper Thompson, but if it’s waffles and ice cream you’re after, I’d definitely suggest the latter (Udders has been rather hit or miss for me, lately).

The café itself has a nice ambience with its natural décor and open window seats, and is spacious enough to never feel too overcrowded (almost as if it were optimised for social distancing even before the pandemic started). The open windows let in lots of natural light, and there’s seats that let you look out onto the street, if you want a more scenic view rather than the plain, woodsy interior.

Homemade Waffle with Lemon Cheesetart Ice Cream ($7.40)

Like Udders, Salted Caramel boasts a plethora of ice cream flavours, whether you’re looking for a familiar favourite (vanilla, chocolate, etc) or something from their more unique selection. I went with the latter, opting for the Lemon Cheesetart, which actually tasted a lot like the real thing, offering a nice balance of sweet and sour curdy flavours. Also, Salted Caramel’s ice cream as a whole is much smoother and more gelato-like than Udders’, which easily gives it the edge for me.

The waffle itself was light and crispy, but also slightly buttery, which is a balance I usually look for in a good waffle. My only complaint is that they sprinkled powdered sugar on top when I requested they leave that out (ice cream is sweet enough on its own).

Overall, I was pleased with the quality of Salted Caramel’s waffles and impressed by quality of the ice cream and selection of flavours they had to choose from.
